The point is not to memorise “all the grammar”. The point is to learn a repeatable method for building correct beginner sentences.

A simple sentence is built from a few key “building blocks”. We can split any sentence into a noun group and verb group (also referred to as noun phrases and verb phrases). Now, you won’t always see every group in every sentence, but a sentence almost always looks as follows:

A verb is an action or a state.

We can build sentences using the structure we have learnt in our previous lessons. A sentence (phrase) is made up of a subject, verb, determiner and noun.

In a supermarket you don’t “tell stories” much: you ask questions. You want a complete toolkit (not only est-ce que).
